DATE Band Director and Music Teacher

 

Music is a major part of my life. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Master's degree in Music Education. I am a pianist, saxophonist, and vocalist. I worked for over eight years in the Pickens County School System.  During my tenure in Pickens County, I was the Pickens County Middle School Assistant Band Director, Jasper Middle School Band Director, and I was on staff with the Pickens High School Pride of Pickens Band. During my tenure in Pickens County, I received nine consecutive years of only superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation, many students in the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) 9th District and Georgia All State Band, and served in several difference offices of the GMEA 9th District. As Assistant Band Director, from 1999-2002 PCMS Bands performed at the GMEA In-Service Conference, University of Georgia Middle School Music Festival, Southern Division of MENC Conference, the All-South Honor Band Clinic at University of Southern Mississippi, and we were invited to play at the Troy State University Music Conference and GMEA 2 Years in s row.  I was the director of Choral Music and General Music at Dawson Christian Academy from 2014-2015, in which my combined elementary and middle school Chorus received Excellent Ratings at Choral LPGE. I worked 3 Years as the Music Teacher at North Metro Academy of Performing Arts while at NMAPA I taught 3rd and 4th Grade Recorder, 4th and 5th Grade Piano and Band, Director of the Kindergarten Musical Flakes!, Music Director for 2016-2017 Musical Schoolhouse Rock and 2017-2018 Oz: The Musical, and the Director of Peter Pan Jr for 2018-2019. We also had 5th Grade Students participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association Statewide Elementary Honors Chorus 2016-2019. In August 2019, I became the Band Director at DATE Academy in Stone Mountain.

I worked as the pianist at Jasper United Methodist and the Associate Music and Worship Leader until June 2013. I also served as Praise and Worship Leader for the contemporary worship service.  While on staff at the church, I worked with all ages in the choral music program. I played piano as well as conducted the various music ensembles in our church. I worked extensively in church music with the elementary music program from teaching recorder, hand chimes, hand bells, singing, movement through music, and directing two children's musicals a year. I was the director of Children’s Music at Concord Baptist Church in Cumming until June 2017. I am now on staff at Lanier United Methodist Church as their Music and Worship Leader. I direct the Children's BLAST Choir, Adult Chancel Choir, Drama Team, and Lead Worship since September 2017.

I am the proud father of three children and I am also a band parent with my oldest son playing trumpet daughter playing alto saxophone in the Pride of Pickens High School Band  My 10 year old loves to play baseball and be a drummer one day!!!!!
